!! Subgroup/Spin-off Group

This is a temporary page whilst we get organised and until the subgroup website is set up.

!!!What do you want the group to be?

The group is very much embryonic and evolving at present (Feb.2012), however feedback from numerous people indicates:

!!!!Overview
The group has multifaceted interests, two of the main ones are:
#Both influencing and giving education to community, public, schools, government.
#Microcomputers/controllers and their programming, electronics, robotics, hacking.

These is also interest in two types of regular meetings:
#Talks/presentations/theory/demonstrations.
#Hands on practical doing and hacking.
Perhaps the meetings could alternate.

!!!!Brief
*Open source hardware
*Micro computers/controllers
*Micro computer/controller programming
*Electronics
*Robotics
*Astronomy - the computing and electronics aspects of astronomy, ionospheric, magnetic, radio, satellite tracking, FFT's, etc.
*'Home' weather stations
*Education involvement, schools, academia, local community, government.

!!!!Activities
*Monthly talks/presentations/demonstrations/theory/how-to's.
*Monthly social with CovLUG.
*Practical hands-on sessions.
*Workshops.
*Educational influence/advice.
*Education of public, schools (teachers & pupils), community, government.

!!!!Meeting Date & Time
*Last week of the month.
*Day of meeting is still to be chosen.
->Not a Wednesday as that clashes with fizzPOP.

->Saturdays and Sundays have been suggested also (but please not over lunchtime 12:00 to 14:00).

*Weekends may suit practical meetings and
->weekdays the talks?

*Meeting time still to be chosen.

!!!!First Meeting
The fourth week of February 2012?\\
The day is to be decided.

!!!!Venue
Is still to be arranged:
*City centre (Coventry) location preferably.
*Some people would like to bring their children along, hence pubs are no go areas after 7pm.
*The Council House has meeting rooms available for free in the evenings.
*For weekends The Herbert is a good venue with cafe, they have decent meeting and work rooms (may allow soldering in some) but payment may be required?

!!!!Name
''Simple, catchy, reflects groups interests:''

Still to be chosen.\\
As interest in the group goes beyond the bounds of Coventry, having 'Cov' in the name may not be appropriate, instead perhaps Mercia or Meridian or CW for Coventry and Warwickshire.
*TekTrix (technical+electronics)
*Tekizz (techies)
*TekWizz (technical wizardry)
*Tekspiration (technical inspiration)
Or some acronym representing the group.
*MOSHEE - Microcomputers Open Source Hardware Electronics and Education.

!!!!Website & Mailing List
To be set up - possibly soon after 11'^th^' February 2012. A name for the group will need to be decided before then.

Use the CovLUG tech mailing list for now.

Forums, Twitter, Identica, Facebook?
